I have a liking for ravens...

Yes, it´s a bit morbid have a liking for ravens, but I do. I do like then because of the "Melancholie" that they suggest. "la folie"  that they inspire, "l`autonomie", the dark outfit that they display proudly.

certainly the most popular raven of the western world is Poe´s character, if we can call him a character, Nevermore, in The Raven, a classic of the English language.

`Prophet!' said I, `thing of evil! - prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us - by that God we both adore -
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden, whom the angels named Lenore?'
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'

from the poem The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe

artistically, raven´s silhouette and its attractive blackness is for those who have a liking for working with shade and nuances like I do, specially shades of dark colours, very inspiring.
This beautiful, intriguing blackness that never stops fomenting, inciting, the mind. the images of dreamland, dark and mysterious contrasts, the undercurrents of solitude and  Nordic gloominess.
could the life of the raven be a life of a  simple clergyman? always in black?  nothing can or should harm the purity of your darkness.

in the medieval times, the allegory of the ravens is very interesting; because They are generally considered good luck because of its high intelligence, and they are connected somehow with  cold wisdom.

"as the ravens first pecks out the eye, so the devil first destroy the ability to judge correctly, leaving the mind open to attack. as the raven will not feed the chicks until it recognizes them as its own, so the teacher should not tell his students of the inner mysteries until he recognizes that they are ready to receive them, when they have grown dark with repentance"

the new poetical element founded in ravens image, is not  too much connected with the gothic culture of the 20 century  nowdays is all about "la reference" the old symbolism and its consequences is there as well but it can be as well your idea, your view, because art nowadays is all about references and turning into new, a thought, a synonym, an definite idea into a completely new thing like they do in a collage, pieces of symbolism and imagery, getting these pieces, putting them together, mixing the ideas and concepts in a image.

this  raven here can be an image of a bitter disappointment?

there´s nothing new in art anymore. its seems that everything has been done, invented,  recreated, so what has left ? new concepts and the effort of representation, playing with and connecting the visual to the writing, the writing to the visual, so creativity is in a certain way information, it has become a matter of dealing with the huge amount of  information that we have in this virtual era and connect them.
in my artistic concept the attitude is more in recognizing the variety of ways,
" la conception, information et connection" . raven as a concept itself is much more a literary concept than an visual one, it migrated from the novels and poems.
art is more like about "L`ampleur de sa personnalité"  and sugest the same "ampleur pour les autres" that´s my conception anyway.
